Cheek augmentation with surgery can enhance facial contours and balance facial features. It is also used to correct asymmetries and congenital defects (ie, those you’re born with). There are many options in cheek augmentation and the implants come in a range of shapes and sizes. Various materials can be used for implants, and which is used depends, generally, on the surgeon’s preference. Some are made of silicone while other are made of other non-reactive materials like Medpor.
When cheek implant surgery is performed at the same time as other facial procedures, the implants may be inserted through a shared incision. If cheek implant surgery is performed by itself, incisions are either made at the top of the upper lip, near the gums, or on the outer cheek, slightly below the lower eyelid. Your surgeon will then insert the implant through these incisions into a pocket created in the tissue. Sometimes, the implant is attached to the bone using a small titanium screw. The incisions are closed with absorbable stitches.
Surgery: 30 to 45 minutes
Recovery: 3 to 4 days to return to work; 7 to 10 days for full recovery.
Cost: $2500 to $3500
